David A. Howe Library Rolls Out Dinosaur Programs and New Kids' Tech Station
The David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville is capping its summer children's programming with dinosaur-themed activities, including a Dinosaur Dig Show set for the Nancy Howe Auditorium in early August 2026. The library recently added a Library Learning Tech Station in its children's section, featuring Playaway Launchpad devices preloaded with age-appropriate educational content for kids age three and up. Staff also announced a new pen pal program and a rotating story-time series that moves between local parks, community-helper locations and pajama-themed sessions at the library through the fall. The additions build on a library collection of more than 117,000 items serving the greater Wellsville area.

Town of Alma Sets August 11 Hearings on Three New Local Laws
The Alma Town Board scheduled public hearings for Tuesday, August 11 at 6 p.m. at Alma Town Hall to gather resident input on three proposed local laws before voting on adoption. One measure, a road preservation law, would set new standards for maintaining town roads. A second would govern utility work permits and protections for town highways, and a third would formalize a franchise agreement with Spectrum for telecommunications service in the town. All three hearings are open to the public before the board acts on the proposals.

Alfred Ceramic Art Museum to Reopen in September with Two New Exhibitions
The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum on the Alfred University campus closed its summer shows on July 19 and will remain shut through early September while staff install its next round of exhibitions. When it reopens on September 10, the museum will debut "Paula Murray: Resilience," a survey of the Canadian ceramic artist's vessel-based work exploring breaking, healing and transformation, alongside "Figure Out: Catastrophe or Regeneration," an installation of slip-cast figures by Paolo Porelli. Both shows open with a joint public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Both exhibits run through December 20. The museum, housed at Main and Pine streets on the Alfred University campus, holds nearly 8,000 ceramic objects and is closely tied to the university's internationally known ceramic art program.
